THE ST KITTS VS NEVIS BACCHANAL 2002

 

 

The Nevis Culturama Committee (N.C.C.) has time tabled a Nevis versus St. Kitts Kaiso Bacchanal as part of its 2002 Culturama Festival activities. This contest has been set for Friday August 2^nd 2002 8:00 p.m. at the Nevis Cultural Complex.  The Grand Masters Band would provide musical accompaniment for the contest.

 

It is hoped that this Kaiso Bacchanal Contest would bring together four of Nevis’ top Kaisonians and four of St. Kitts top Kaisonians. The idea of this contest is to have the competitors from each island compete as a team.

 

Prizes

The Proposed prizes are as follows:

 

Winning team        - $8000.00 and a trophy

Losing team           - $4000.00 and a trophy

Category Winners  - $1,500.00 and a trophy

Participation          - Each participant will receive a trophy of participation

 

The contest will be divided into four categories, namely Social Commentary, Party Music, Wit and Extempo.

 

 

Format of the Contest 

 

1.                  There shall be four participants on each team.

 

2.                  Each island’s Calypso Association or relevant body shall nominate the participants who will be a part of that island=s team based on the stipulated categories outlined above.

 

3.                  Each team will nominate one member but no more the two members who will compete in each of the categories.

 

4.                  Each participant will only be allowed to sing two songs, either from the same category or from two categories.

 

5.                  Points will be awarded to each team in each category and the team with the most points at the end would be declared the overall winner.

 

6.                  There shall be no restrictions on the songs rendered by the participants hence, any Kaisonian would therefore have the option of singing old or new songs or a combination of either one or the other.

 

7.                  The use of stage props will not attract any additional points. Additionally, any stage prop deemed inappropriate or unsuitable for the performance will result in points being deducted from that performance.

 

Judging Criteria

 

1.      Lyrics 40 points (Lyrical fit 20 pts, Theme 10 pts, Word Craft 15 pts, Creativity 5 pts)

2.      Music 30 points (Melody 15 pts, Arrangement 10 pts, Creativity 5 pts)

3.      Performance 30 points (Rendition 15 pts, Presentation 15 pts)
