CHARLESTOWN, Nevis (August 8, 2001) Adele Dore was crowned Miss Culturama 2001 during the 27th anniversary
of the Caribbean’s most unique cultural festival, "Culturama" on Sunday August 5, at the Cultural Complex.
A "white evening" of charm, beauty and elegance was the setting of the much anticipated queen pageant, as the young ladies mesmerised the appreciative audience with each appearance they made.
From a field of four contestants, Adele won three of the four segments, namely talent, best interpretation of African wear and the look of the sophisticated women of the 21st Century. While the look of the sophisticated women of the 21st Century and the best interpretation of African wear were new additions to the show, the fan fare and introduction segment were not judged.
The girls were subjected to an interview session with Mark Brantley, a lawyer by profession. Errol Fabian and Friends of Trinidad hosted the evening’s event while Mrs. Deli Caines-Bussue and Mr. Elridge Glasford commentated the proceedings.
A number of activities that led to the pageant included two cocktail parties hosted by Prime Minister Hon Denzil Douglas and Premier Hon Vance Amory. The Swimwear was a separate segment to the Queen Contestants’ Roster.
At the end of this segment, Adele Dore had also walked away with the Miss Swim Suit 2001. She was awarded trophies for best one piece, best two piece and the most articulate speaker. It was the first ever of its kind since the inception of the Queen Pageant to Culturama.
Although the show was rescheduled due to inclement weather, a large and favourable crowd was on hand to witness the swim wear contest at the prestigious Four Seasons Resort Ballroom, a change from outdoors to indoors.
The one piece swim wear featured the four beauties paying tribute to stalwarts who hailed from their villages and they also painted a picturesque image of what their village has to offer.
Eighteen year old Adele Dore of Bath Village was the crowd’s favourite. Berger Paints through their local agent TDC sponsored Adele. Karene Paul of Cotton Ground was sponsored by Cable and Wireless who placed first runner up. The Other contestants were Dominique Honders of Barnes Ghaut and Sponsored by NEVLEC, while Lisa Jeffers of Paradise was sponsored by Carib Breweries.
