Boy Obi, my pick would have to be Dis N Dat. If we going to talk bout guys who use to sing I would have to say Ginger, his lyrics to me is the best by far. |

Some people believe Meeko is the best not only in Nevis but in the federation and the Leeward islands. |

[face=Geneva][/face] Never mind who the favorite is , there is a need for a change. If you have won the crown more that 3 times you can't keep on competing give someone else a chance , its always the same guys . lord its time for a change |

For a long time now I have said that those guys who have won the competition more than 3 time should not be able to compeat again and give the new comers a chance to make a name for themself's. They work just as hard and I think should have the chance to prove thenselfs in the comition.
Enlish in Nevis I totaly agree with you that it is time for change on the whole of the competition stature in calypso |

I don't think I agree with you guys. To me the more experience Calypsonians are needed to give the younger guys a level to which they should aspire to. People like Meeko, Dis N Dat and Binghi help to lift the standard of Calypso also.
Just imagine the Calypso show without Meeko, Dis N Dat and Binghi? Do you think it would create the same level of interest?

But those who compeat has already come upto the stander to be in the finales. So I dont understand? With out them the'll be no contest or what? |

Obi I am not saying is that the more experience should not sing, however just stay out of the competiton stage of the show, they still can take part be guest artist. The standard is very high its like your saying the others Calypsonians are not good, and to be honest they are very good. If we as people of nevis dont give someone else a chance then how are we going to know there is better out there. If it goes really bad there is always next year to go back to the old way. We have to make a small change somewhere . I can imagine the show with Meeko Dis N Dat and Binghi and its will be just as good maybe even better |

I have feeling that the younger calypsonians would feel somewhat insulted if they feel that the Culturama committee took pity on them and remove the more experience calypsonians so they could win. That is watering down the competition.
I believe they shouldn't be given anything, instead they should work hard for it. Thats the only way they can become better. Look at what Astro did a few years ago? He beat Meeko and Dis N Dat and became king.
So if Astro can do it why not the others? |

That is total rubbish
Like you say look at a FEW YEARS AGO, that was a one off with Astro Dont get me wrong he is good, very good indeed and it will probably in the next FEW YEARS again.
The guys get as far as they do becuase they are of a high standard, but when the finals comes its all about Dis N Dat Meeko etc. So dont say the calypsonians would feel somewhat insulted I think they would think finaly the show would be fair |

I agree with English a valid point. Its hard to go out there and do your thing to a crowed in Nevis they are very hard judges in there own right.
I applaud the young men who enter into the arena of calyposonians with there high standers of calarity of chosen words to enlighten the people of Nevis.
But the competition is very much one sided and with the likes of Meeko, Dis N Dat etc, is finaly removed from the arena, then we will see some new up and coming Calyposonians in the making to name a few Holywood, Daddy Fresh Cole, Garlic, Wingee and not for getting our beloved Pupa Wheeller and Sweeties. These Calyposonians have been in the arena for years and never come close to win that crown.
Come on now it time the make a stand for new things. |

Do you know in the earlier 1980s before Dis N Dat ever became King he sang a song complaining and asking the question, why can't he be crown king? He felt like he was mistreated each time he sings as it was either, Bahowlah, Chubby or Ginger who was winning he complained.
Now Dis N dat is regarded as one of the best in Nevis actually in the entire federation. I feel is those battles with the big guns at the time that has sharpened his skills to be the top class kaisanian he is today.
I say these young fellas will have to stand up like men and challenge them. Go back to the drawing board and come with something bigger and better than Meeko or Dis N Dat.
A king must be earned not given. |

Mighty Meeko, King Meeko , Meeko who is he Pudff Daddy,P Diddy, Sean John anyway i stray .
Since 1978 Meeko has won Nine time Since 1984 Dis n Dat has won seven times
Enough already
The young fellas and not so young fellas do stand up like men then get pushed down by the masses not because there song is weak because the committe does not and will not back them . I listen every year with a keen ear and wide eyes , and cant believe sometimes how the judging so off the mark .
The judging system need to change 2004 Meeko made a mistake and still won
Obi I can sence that you have strong views about this show but we have to see with our eyes wide open not shut |

Let me see If I'm getting this right you believe that the songs the young calyposonians wright is not good enough? Come on now your just going with what you like and who you like and not the quality of the songs that are performed in the run up and on that final night.
As my good firend English in Nevis out lines that Dis N Dat has won a total of 7 times since 1984 Meeko 9 since 1978. But Dis N Dat won on the merit of a song complainning that he wonted to win the crown, that topic has been drained by calyposonians over the years.
We can go on and on about this and only have myself and English In Nevis bash you over your head to make you see sence. |

Yes Sweet Sensation that is what I am saying. As a past Kaiso judge in Nevis many times, I can tell youn the Young Kaisoninas standards many times are not up to par. The songs that they write is obviously not good enough. They need better writers for one just like what Astro did. That is why Astro has been able to stand and do battle with the big guns such as Meeko and Dis N Dat and beat them.
EnglishNevis...when it comes to the Kaiso show the committee is NOT pushing down anyone. That is just something people like to say when they are not good enough to win....they find all kinds of excuses except themselves. The judges are selected base on the kaisonian's recommendation. So in other words the kaisonians themselves get to pick who they think is qualified to judge them. |
